Dealing with Creative Blocks

Everyone, at some point in their life, WILL experience some type of creative block.  Whether you are an artist, writer, musician or even a stay at home mom, no one is immune.  An artist may experience lack of vision.  A writer may be at a loss for words.  A musician may miss a beat, and a stay at home mom may have days of wanting to return to work.  Whatever the case may be, these blocks can present themselves in all shapes and sizes.  Artists and those who frequently dance with their muse, tend to feel the impact of creative blocks pretty intensely because it is the power of that inspiration that is the driving force in their life.  When that life force energy gets stuck, it can wreak havoc on our mind.  Be mindful of your thoughts.  Do not allow your creative soul to succumb to your mental mind.  I make a habit of reminding myself that these blocks are only temporary.  After all, being stuck is just a form of energy.  As with all energy, it will move again.  It has no choice but to move.  Our minds can perpetuate this lack of movement with our creative energy only causing us to stay in that stationary state.  Coming to a state of acceptance and non-judgement is key in allowing the flow to finds its way again.

I have been working on a particular piece for my own personal healing for several months.  It is a multi-media piece in which I will be incorporating a sculpture into a painting.  When I first became inspired by this piece, I knew exactly what I wanted to do and the vision was so clear.  As I began the process, I realized that due to the complexity of the piece, it was going to take longer than I had anticipated.  I had to rely on other people to assist me in my creative process and even had to send part of the sculpture away to be worked on by other people.  Needless to say, not having the piece in my possession created quite the gap in my creative process.  Sitting with the ideas flowing and not having the piece to work on brought up may frustrations and lessons in patience.  As I come to further understand the process of healing through art, these lessons allow our soul the time to catch up.  I finally got the piece back and due to my own timing, or lack of, this project sat again.  When I finally picked up my paint brush to begin
the canvas part of it, nothing felt right.  All of that time waiting and simmering actually shifted the entire project.  I began painting my original idea and it was just not flowing.  All of this waiting brought me to a place of clearer intention for this piece.  It will be taking on a much deeper level of healing than I had ever expected and will actually be far more powerful than what I first imagined.

As  I begin this next phase of my process, I will post pictures and share with you this journey of transformation.  And as I walk through this process, I am called to remind those who create......Be patient, allow your soul to sit with delays, with the stillness in your creativity.  Your soul knows what you need and it is rearranging your energy so you can then birth what it is that your soul truly desires.  It is in that place of stillness where the alchemy occurs.
